David Newman: Instructor

David is a multi-instrumentalist who has been playing guitar, drums and other instruments for the last 25 years. He studied jazz at Cuesta college with George Stone and Warren Balfour, then Western percussion with Bill Johnson and Ross Sears at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he received his BA in percussion performance. He then continued his studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he branched out into other instruments, including banjo and Javanese Gamelan. At home in a variety of styles (jazz, rock, reggae, country, blues and more), his performance credits include countless gigs on drums and guitar, as well as performances with the San Luis Obispo Symphony, Pacific Repertory Opera, San Luis Obispo Mozart Festival, and Carnegie Hall.
